Adventure Okehampton is set on the northern edge of Dartmoor we have two sites providing activities as well as offering activities for day visitors. The centre is close to Dartmoor National Park in this beautiful part of the South West, Exeter is 25 miles away by road.

A full range of outdoor activities takes place and the site buzzes with excitement all day every day! Activities include rock climbing, high ropes, gorge scrambling, pony trekking, archery, mountain biking, mountain boarding, walking, kayaking, raft building, surfing and body boarding.

The centre also runs an extensive HND instructor training program and public services courses for a number national colleges. During school holidays a summer camp and family activity programme keeps the centre buzzing. We offer a range of training courses for individuals leading to NGBs awards and general interest courses run for most of the year.

COOK (SEASONAL POST)

This is a full time seasonal position running approx March-November, this role will be mainly shift work including evenings and weekends.

Wage is dependent on experience

The role will involve cooking and running an efficient, hygienic kitchen as part of a team to deliver a first class product for guaranteed customer satisfaction.
Applicants should be motivated and reliable, with the ability to work well and direct others in high pressure situations.

SEASONAL CLEANERS


This is a full or part time time seasonal position running approx March-November, working days would be Monday-Friday and one weekend day, hours 9am-5pm or 3pm by arrangement.

Wage is dependent on experience

The successful applicant must be motivated, reliable, efficient and well organised. Work must be carried out to a high standard. Must be able to work as part of a team but also unsupervised when necessary. Duties to include; making bunk beds, cleaning bathrooms, hovering and laundry.

THE GOODS SHED: SEASONAL GENERAL ASSISTANTS (LIVE-IN)

This is an all rounder general assistant position which covers a wide variety of roles within reception, housekeeping and catering. There are sleepover duties which are shared between the 'live-in team'.

ACTIVITIES DEPARTMENT: MODERN APPRENTICES

We offer 2 modern apprenticeship in conjunction with Duchy College. We have good links with the college and are able to offer a work placement as well as support for the Sport and Recreation Activity leadership NVQ level 2. This is a great way into the outdoor industry giving the all important practical experience as well as work based learning, so applicants will finish with a seasons experience in an outdoor centre along with national governing body awards.

Importantly modern apprentices are treated as members of the activity team and will be expected to form part of the instructing team, initially as an assistant and then progressing to taking a leading role on certain activities. There will be an initial training period as well as ongoing training throughout the season; the level of personal development does depend on the individual as they will be expected to practice skills and advance their skill level in their own time.

Training wage dependent on age and experience

Accommodation:  There is a limited amount of accommodation available at the centre as well as a short let flat in town with two rooms available through the centre. Staff wishing to take up accommodation need to let us know as soon as possible as there is limited availability. As part of their accommodation, any staff living at the centre are required to do one or two nights 'sleep over duty' each week on a rota basis and training will be provided.

THE GOODS SHED: Receptionist

Although we have made one appointment for reception, we have a vacancy for a second member of reception staff.

Main duties include general administration, booking in customers, managing telephone bookings. Adventure Okehampton wishes to be seen as a company that is efficient, whilst making our customers feel special, and this role is key to delivering good service to the customer from first making their booking to arrival at the centre.  The post would suit someone looking for experience of working in the Hospitality industry, seeking to develop their skills prior to applying for managerial positions.


Key Responsibilities:
Take telephone enquires and actively promote the products which suit the customers requirements
Book in customers and actively promote other products such as catering, activities that can be purchased on arrival
Assisting with management, including periodic checks of the products sold via web-booking engines.
Assist Accounts department through management the till system and credit card bookings.
General administration, including filing customer information, updating customer data-bases, preparing mail-shots for Marketing, advising Web-manager about issues raised by customers.
Checking the information in maintenance book and advising urgent requirements to Operations Manager
Passing customer issues with cleaning to Cleaning Supervisor

Personal
To achieve the highest possible standards of attendance, time keeping and personal presentation
Able to work flexible hours around the job requirement, including weekends and extended hours.
Self-motivated and seeking to enhance their skills in reception management.

Skills
Must be computer literate with experience of using Outlook, Word, Excel, Databases, EPOS and Web Booking Engines.
Good listener, Communicates well, Demonstrates excellent written and verbal skills, A persuasive approach to selling, Has the ability to work under pressure.

Hours
Able to operate on a flexible rota basis within the Reception, with general opening hours: 08.00 to 22.00.

Salary: Dependant of experience, probable range £6-£7 per hour.  Preferably a full-time position, but part-time applicants maybe considered.

ACTIVITIES DEPARTMENT: MULTI-ACTIVITY INSTRUCTORS

Although we have now appointed key staff for 2012, we keep a list of freelance and seasonal staff, both experienced instructors holding two or more national governing body awards and candidates with at least one NGB with relevant experience to lead activity sessions for a variety of groups. We may appoint further staff later in the season. Salary rates depend on experience: £6.50 to £7.20 per hour.
